The Ties That Bind

Based on some info from Pfalz, Leonardo (a Shaldanite detective) and Rinault go to a small, nearby Ebene encampment to find the 'weapon' that interrupted the Fanel's last Spell of Three, rendering them unconscious.  When they get there, Leonardo is very insistant that they try and find some documents related to it rather than fighting Ebene to get the weapon.  But, all of the papers they find are written in Ebene are completely incoherant to them.  Rinault then goes on a small killing spree while Leonardo creeps off into another building to find the weapon.

Leonardo's obvious lack of fighting skills is proved when two guards in the second building pretty much rip him to pieces, but Rinault shows up before any permanant damage can come to him.  After finishing off the guards they manage to locate the weapon, which is a young girl named Nirth.  Despite his hurt condition, Leonardo immediately tries to interrogate her, but she passes out before anything can be said.

Nirth wakes up later back at the House and answers a few of Leonardo's questions.  She tells him she is a puppeteer, having the ability to control the movements of people with puppets and invisible strings.  Satisfied she had no intention of really harming the Phoenix Fighters and was forced to do everything, Leonardo lets her alone.

Filled with interest about the House, Nirth is determind to stay.  She is told by Leo to speak with Ana about it, so she goes to the office.  There she does see Ana, but is much more interested in twins.  After telling Ana she absolutely adores children, Ana immediately names her their new nanny and allows her to stay.  Pfalz meanwhile recieves a little interrogation over all the letters she constantly recieves from her sisters, who are obviously still on the side of the Ebene.  While she does manage to evade most of the questions, the evasions are obvious and she's leaves everyone in the room feeling rather suspicious.

Sic recieves a knock on her door during the night and it turns out to be Sito, who briefly greets her, gives her a note written in braille, and leaves.  The note tells her to go downstairs, which she does.  On the railing she finds a second note instructing her to the courtyard.  Outside she finds Jesse, who seems unusually tense.  He proposes to her and Sic immediately passes out from the shock.  But, she wakes up again within a few minutes and happily says yes to his proposal.
