Adriana, meanwhile, is surprised to find Kit in her office.  Kit informs her that the Ebene have found a way to work around some of the antibodies Casey created for the Phoenix Fighters, to protect them from various weapons.  She asks Adriana to call a meeting, which she immediately does.  Once all the Phoenix Fighters are assembled, Kit shocks everyone by attacking Malik.  She manages to draw some blood before Rinault and Aeq retaliate, revealing that Kit is, in fact, a shapeshifter.  As she dies, she warns Malik that the Ebene will get even for his perceived defection.

 

The next day, Malik violently attacks Adriana.  Though she gives him a good fight, he manages to overpower her, violently beating and raping her.  After the act, he seemingly regains his senses, unable to figure out how or why it happened.  Although tempted to kill Malik, Kazuo is calmed down enough by Ariadne to instead focus his energy on taking care of the wounded Adriana.

 

Warren appears to Adriana as she is recovering.  He reveals that Malik was possessed during the incident.  Although he does not know who did it, they become fairly convinced that the same ghost Milady employed to find the gem of Ariosto is at work again.  It becomes very evident that the Ebene wants Malik dead.

 

Philip returns to the House, explaining that he was in Sybok and that the real Kit was, in fact, there the whole time.  Kazuo and Adriana decide it's best for him not to know what happened between Adriana and Malik and convince the rest of the House to cooperate.  Ariadne, meanwhile, scolds Philip for his brash actions, reminding him of the persistant risk he takes when leaving the House.  There's already enough Dragmire in the House.  Malik, fearing for his life, makes amends with Adriana then resolves to travel to Sybok to learn more magic from Kit so that he can protect himself against future Ebene threats on his life.
